20 Jun Jasmine on How Meditation Has Helped Her Improve In Life

Our user Jasmine wanted to share the story of how meditation has brought about subtle changes within her. She even found the different techniques of meditation ( scanning the body to detect tightness and observe breathing patterns) to relieve her from daily stress. From a very interesting start to practicing it daily, her story is very inspiring and we are proud to call her a part of our meditation community!

See what our ” Mindfulness Hero : Jasmine” had to say when we asked her a few question:

1. How have you made meditation a part of your life?

I started meditating regularly about 2 years ago. As a child, my mom had a book by Osho. I remember reading how you should cry/laugh/dance for an hour and a half and then meditate. This just seemed ridiculous! So I kept that mindset of meditation for years. Fast forward to a few years ago, and I came across an article touting the benefits of meditation. I thought I would give it a try. I started with Headspace, which I enjoyed, but it was too expensive for someone on a college student budget.
Today I try to start off my day listening to some sort of meditation or listening to some calming nature sounds and just relax.

2. What changes has meditation brought to your life?

I’ve definitely noticed my posture improving. I’ve noticed that when I am stressed, I can physically feel it - either as a warm or tense sensation, either in my face or my shoulders. Once I realize that I’m stressed, I’ll take a deep breath and drop my shoulders. I’m immediately relieved! Also when I feel like I am overwhelmed, I try to be less reactionary.

3. What are the tips or advice you would want to share with beginners?

Don’t feel like you have to have a blank mind. Don’t get frustrated if you can’t “empty” your mind. Just breathe, relax, and try to think of your thoughts as a parade - one that you’re watching, not one that you’re in.

4. How has Aware helped you in your journey?

I love all of the different programs that Aware has to offer! I love the visualization techniques, as well as the energizers - mini meditation sessions that I can do throughout the day.

    Jasmine,
I really liked your analogy of observing my thoughts like watching a parade!
    Awesome insight! Thank you.
